There are eight bathing lakes in the province of Bolzano, one more impressive than the other:
1- Small Montigglersee
The small Montigglersee is one of the most popular lakes in South Tyrol. The lake is characterized by a typical semi-circular shape with a diameter of about 300 m. and has a shoreline of about 890 m. The small Montiggler has a maximum depth of 15 m and is located in a completely wooded basin to the north-east of the large lake. The Touring Club Italia and Legambiente have classified this lake as one of the cleanest in Italy, recognizing the excellent quality of its water, the high level of tourist facilities and the gastronomic and receptive excellence that characterize it.
2- Big Montigglersee
The big Montigglersee is located in the middle of the Monticolo protected area in the municipality of Appiano. It lies at an altitude of 492 metres above sea level and is one of the most popular lakes in South Tyrol. It has a length of about 700 metres and a width of between 200 and 300 meters. The highest depth is 11.5 metres. In the north-east it is surrounded by rocky ground, while on the opposite side the ground turns into a marsh. At the very northern edge there are also some cliffs from which you can jump directly into the cool water.
3- Lake Kaltern
Lake Kaltern is the warmest bathing lake in the entire Alpine area: an irresistible attraction for many tourists, who find here the ideal conditions to practice the most diverse water sports, to relax and to have fun at the same time. To complete the already very inviting ensemble, you will find the culture and ancient traditions of Caldaro and Tramin, as well as a rich and unmissable offer of food and wine.
4- Felixer Weiher
The Felixer Weiher is a small alpine lake in the Nonstal valley, at about 1,600 m from the municipality of Senale-San Felice (BZ) and 44 km from Bolzano. It is also called "Tretsee", a name derived from its proximity to the hamlet of Tret in the municipality of Fondo, to which it is connected by with an easy path. A small island in the middle of the lake, onto which you can swim, adds some extra charm to the Tretsee.
6- Lake Fennberg
Lake Fennberg is immersed in the same vegetation and fauna that can be admired on Lake Garda, due to the same warm breeze that comes from the south. It is located at an altitude of 1,034 metres above sea level, in a small and charming hollow on a terrace of the Fennberg plateau. The lake is not only a popular excursion destination, but also a protected biotope with bathing permission during the summer months.
7- Vahrner Lake
Lake Vahrner is located 2 km northeast of Vahrn near Brixen in the Eisack Valley and is a popular excursion destination. Surrounded by mountain slopes and beautiful wooded areas, it offers tourists a lot of peace and relaxation despite its proximity to busy roads, such as the Brenner motorway. Once there were two lakes in this area, but in 1825 one of them was turned into a meadow. A natural haven of peace - and a real insider tip!
8- Wolfsgrubner Lake
Wolfsgrubner lake is one of the cleanest freshwater lakes in Italy and is located on the Rittner plateau. It owes its name to the village of the same name and is surrounded by a dense forest that reaches its shores. It can be reached by the road that leads to Oberbozen and the hamlet of Costalovara, which is about 17 km from the main town. The lake was artificially enlarged in order to use larger water reserves for the operation of the mills and sawmills in the area. On hot summer days, this lake is a popular tourist destination, ideal for relaxing and enjoying a refreshing swim in its waters. And of course, the view of the whole basin of Bozen.
9- Zoggler Reservoir
The Zoggler Reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in the Ulten Valley and easily accessible by bus from our campsite. Around the lake there are countless hiking possibilities, and once you have reached the lake again after your hike, it offers many small pebble beaches where you can relax and dive into the cool water.
Our camping reception is always at your disposal for questions about distances, hikes, public transport and everything else.
